To be honest, I love watching movies with my boyfriend – and not just movies; our guilty pleasure lies in dumb reality TV.

And it’s something super easy to organize when you guys live together or spend time at one another’s home.

However, the problem begins when both of you are in a long-distance relationship. You can send someone a movie recommendation. You can text while watching. Also, you can even start a video call and try to press play at the same time.

But none of those options quite recreate watching something together.

That is the problem Rave tries to solve. Rave – Watch Party lets people watch videos together while staying connected through text and voice chat.

It supports several major streaming services and is designed to keep playback synchronized between viewers.

The idea sounds simple – you just need to find something to watch, invite your boyfriend, and then watch it together.

But does Rave actually make online movie nights better? Or is it simply another app that adds a chat window to streaming? Stick around while I try out the app, so that you don’t have to.

What Is The Rave App?

Rave is a social watch-party app created by Rave Inc. Its main purpose is to let people watch videos together while communicating in real time.

So, the idea is simple – you just need to create a viewing room, pick content that the app supports, invite your partner (or friends, for that matter), and then watch the same together. Also, while watching something together, you can talk to each other or even text.

The best part? There’s no limit on how many people can watch content together on the app!

You can create a viewing room, choose supported content, invite other people, and watch while chatting through text or voice. Rave says there is no limit to the number of people who can watch together.

The app supports services including:

• Netflix
• YouTube
• Amazon Prime Video
• Disney+
• HBO Max
• Twitch
• Crunchyroll
• Google Drive
• Google Photos

However, I do want to highlight that all the features might not be accessible equally – in fact, accessibility varies significantly both by region and platform.

Rave also notes that rented or paid YouTube and Amazon content is not supported. To be fair, the app is available across multiple devices, including:

• Chromebook, and
• Some TV platforms.

How Does Rave Work?

The basic process is fairly straightforward.

You choose the service you want to watch from inside Rave. Then you create or join a viewing room. You invite the people you want to watch with.

Once everyone joins, the video plays in sync. You can chat while watching through text or voice.

That last part is important – Rave is not only trying to synchronize the video. It is trying to recreate the social part of watching something together.

That means you can react to a scene while it happens rather than sending your friend a message five minutes later.

What Can You Watch On Rave?

Rave supports content from several major platforms.

Currently, its list includes:

That gives the app a useful range. Having said that, there’s something I want to highlight about using Rave: Rave does not give you free access to paid streaming content.

If the service requires a subscription, you still need access to that service. Rave provides the shared viewing experience. It does not replace your streaming subscription.

That distinction is easy to miss when you first hear about watch-party apps.

Rave And Synchronization: The Real Difference Is The Social Experience:

Synchronizing a video is useful. It is not enough by itself.

The more interesting part of Rave is what happens around the video – You can chat while watching. You can use text messages for quick reactions. Also, you can use voice chat when you want something closer to a normal movie night.

And that changes the experience.

Imagine watching a horror movie with three friends – One person reacts to a jump scare. Someone else makes a joke. Another person predicts what will happen next.

Those reactions become part of the entertainment.

You are not simply watching the same movie – You are watching it together. That is the strongest reason to use Rave.

The Rave App For Long-Distance Couples:

Rave can also work well for couples who live apart. Long-distance relationships often involve finding ways to share ordinary experiences.

You may already text throughout the day. But watching a movie together gives you something different.

You can choose something together, settle into your own spaces, and experience it at the same time. Also, the voice and text features let you react as the movie plays.

That can make a normal evening feel more shared.

But Rave is not specifically a couples app – that distinction matters.

Apps such as Between focus on creating a private digital space for two people, while Paired focuses on conversations and relationship activities.

Rave has a broader purpose – It is about shared entertainment.

While that makes the Rave app super useful for couples in long-distance relationships, you can’t ignore that the app can also help friends, families, and communities.

What About Voice Chat?

I loved the voice chat feature on Rave – for me, this feature makes Rave better than any other app that lets you watch something together.

I mean, you can do it on Telegram as well – but this is so much better!

You can talk while the content plays. That means you do not need to switch constantly between your streaming app and another messaging or calling service.

The conversation stays connected to the viewing experience. However, voice chat can get super distracting, especially while watching something serious.

Some people enjoy talking through a comedy. But others can watch a thriller and wouldn’t prefer constant commentary.

As a result, it is obvious that Rave works best when everyone in your watch party agrees on how to use it.

The technology gives you the option. You do not have to talk throughout the entire movie.

Can You Create Private Watch Parties On Rave?

Yes.

I was happy to find out that on Rave I could create private watch parties for me and my partner. And this was an essential point for me – I don’t want my viewing experiences to be public. We are pretty private, and we hate such public watch parties!

But for anyone who likes the best of both worlds, you will be happy to know that with Rave you can engage with other users on the platform. And this is a great way to meet people with shared interests.

That gives the app two different experiences:

1. You can use it as a private watch-party tool.
2. Or you can treat it as a more social entertainment platform.

You have to choose as per what works best for you – and this is the kind of flexibility I prefer.

Is Rave More Than A Movie App?

Yes.

Rave supports more than traditional movies and television shows. You can watch YouTube videos, music content, streams, and other supported media together.

The company also promotes karaoke parties as one of its use cases.

That is where the app becomes more interesting. The broader the content choices, the easier it is to make Rave fit different groups.

What I Like About The Rave App?

The strongest part of Rave is that it understands something basic about online entertainment: people do not always want to consume content alone. They want to react to it with someone.

On that note, here’s what I genuinely loved about Rave:

1. It Combines Watching And Chatting:

You do not need one app for the video and another for the conversation. Everything happens in the same viewing experience.

2. It Supports Several Platforms:

Rave is not tied to one streaming service. That makes it more flexible for groups where everyone has different subscriptions.

3. It Works For More Than Couples

While long-distance couples greatly benefit from Rave, it is safe to say Rave caters to friends, families, and even online communities. TBH, the app is more than a couples-only app.

4. The Free Version Is Genuinely Useful:

Rave’s official FAQ says the core app is free across its supported platforms, while Premium offers an ad-free experience. That way, you can try the app without paying for a subscription right away.

Where Rave Falls Short?

A useful review should also look at the limitations. Rave’s concept is good, but it is not perfect for everyone.

On that note, here’s what I genuinely hated about the Rave app:

1. Everyone Still Needs Access To The Content:

Rave does not magically remove streaming subscriptions. If you want to watch something on Netflix, you generally need access to Netflix. The same applies to other subscription services.

Rave is the room where you watch together. It is not the content provider.

2. Supported Services Can Change:

Streaming platforms change their technology, licensing arrangements, and access rules. That means compatibility can change over time.

A service supported today may not work in exactly the same way later. Check Rave’s current supported-platform list before planning a watch party around a specific service.

3. The Social Features May Not Appeal To Everyone

Some people want a quiet movie night. Others want constant commentary. Rave works better for the second group.

If your ideal movie night involves putting your phone away and watching without interruption, the app may add more than you want.

4. Public Spaces Require More Caution:

Rave’s social features mean you may encounter people outside your existing friend group. The company says users can discover and meet others who share their interests.

That can be part of the appeal. Also, it means parents and younger users should pay attention to the app’s age rating, community features, and privacy settings.

Is Rave Safe And Private?

This is one area where you should look beyond the app’s entertainment features.

Rave’s privacy policy says the service collects account information such as your username, handle, password, email address, and profile picture. Also, it collects information related to your chats and voice interactions.

The company says it also collects information about what you watch, who you watch with, and certain device and network information.

That can include details such as your device model, operating system, advertising identifiers, IP address, bandwidth, and signal information. Also, the policy says Rave may request precise location information.

That is a substantial amount of information for an entertainment app.

There is another important point.

Rave says that users can save or copy content shared through the service. That includes chats, voice interactions, and other material shared with other users.

So the usual rule applies: Do not share something in a watch-party chat that you would not want another participant to save or share.

Additionally, Rave says account data is deleted within 30 days after an account is deleted.

Also, the Google Play listing indicates that the app may share location data with third parties and may collect personal information and app activity.

That does not automatically mean Rave is unsafe. However, it does mean privacy-conscious users should understand what data they are giving the service.

Is The Rave App Worth Using?

That depends on how you watch content with other people.

TBH, Rave makes sense if you regularly:

• Watch movies with long-distance friends.
• Have online movie nights.
• Want to watch YouTube videos together.
• Stay connected with friends in different cities.
• Enjoy talking while watching.
• Want to combine video and voice chat.
• Want a shared viewing experience without being in the same room.

However, you may not need it if:

• You usually watch everything alone.
• Your friends do not want to install another app.
• You prefer watching without conversation.
• Your streaming service is not supported.
• You already have another watch-party setup that works well.

The biggest test is simple: Will the people you want to watch with actually use it? A watch-party app is only useful when everyone joins.

Rave vs Teleparty

Teleparty is another well-known option for watching streaming content together.

The two services share a basic idea, but the experience is not identical.

Rave puts more emphasis on social interaction through voice and text and supports a broader range of content sources, according to its current platform information.

However, Teleparty may appeal more to people who want a simpler shared-streaming experience.

For me, Rave makes more sense, especially if the social part is important. The better option depends on the services you use and whether you want voice interaction.

Rave App Review: Final Verdict

Rave solves a real problem.

Watching something at the same time as someone else is easy. Feeling like you are watching it together is harder.

That is where Rave has an advantage.

Its synchronized playback removes the awkwardness of trying to press play at exactly the same time.

Also, its text and voice features let people react while the content is playing. And its support for several platforms gives groups more choice about what they watch.

But Rave is not for everyone.

If you prefer quiet movie nights, the social features may feel unnecessary.

However, if your friends do not want to download another app, the best watch-party technology in the world will not help.

And if privacy matters strongly to you, Rave’s data collection deserves a careful look before you start using it.

So, is Rave worth trying? Yes, if watching together matters as much to you as what you are watching.

It is especially useful for long-distance friends, couples, and groups who want to turn an ordinary streaming session into a shared event.

Rave does not make distance disappear.

But it can make distance feel a little less noticeable. And for an app built around watching something together, that is probably the most important thing it can do.
