People are allowed to have one quirk – and exploring underrated dating apps is kind of my quirk. But you guys already know that, considering I always come back to share my experience on the app with everyone who is interested in reading about it.
Did you know there are 8000+ dating apps in the world? In that case, I’m going to spend several years of my youth chasing matches on apps – now, that’s kinda pessimistic. But I’m intrigued – and I shall not give up so soon.
Today, I am going to review FRND, an app that identifies itself as a social discovery application – this means FRND is not very different from Instagram or Facebook. But, it is somewhat different – for starters, you don’t have to match with someone on Facebook to start talking with them.
Strangely, the app always makes it to the list of dating apps, every time I ask Google about the most underrated dating apps that I should check out. So, for once, I thought I’d download this app and figure out on my own – is FRND worth the hype? Or it is just another stupid app that you should stay away from.
Let’s find out.
What Is FRND?

FRND is a social discovery app that helps people connect, bond, and become friends. At least that’s what the official website of the app mentions – but in reality, people use the app to explore romantic relationships, making it a relevant dating app in 2025.
Moreover, the app does offer convenient features like group chats, voice chats, and social gaming. For some users, it is a fun and comfortable way of meeting new people – and more importantly, having meaningful conversations.
However, many users have also expressed concerns about the structure of the app and how it can fall prey to misuse.
What I Thought About The Matches?
So, I wasn’t able to spend more than a week on the app – and I am afraid the app is already being misused and exploited by certain people for money.
I think the creators of FRND are promoting it as a social discovery and networking app – but the reality is pretty disappointing. Unlike popular dating apps like Coffee Meets Bagel and Tawkify, there is no transparency about the exact purpose of the app.
Moreover, I realized after 24 hours on the app that it is less of a social networking or even a dating app, and more of an Indian version of OnlyFans. Except that this app has no respect for the user’s privacy and safety.
In fact, I came across this super creepy video featuring a woman in her mid-30s, asking younger men to get in touch with hot married women. That does sound weird for a dating app, right?
Pros And Cons Of FRND

Based on my experience, I’ve listed down the pros and cons of FRND below:
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| 1. Users can connect through voice chats instead of relying solely on swiping. | 1. User reviews of the app mention that some people are failing to understand the app’s purpose. |
| 2. Features like celebrity rooms ensure users are engaging with celebs and learning from them. | 2. There is a tendency of the app to exploit users by creating pressure to spend money to form bonds. |
| 3. The app supports multiple languages, ensuring FRND is accessible to a large audience. | 3. There are concerns about FRND’s transparency for the app’s purpose and the types of social interactions. |
| 4. As per users, FRND offers learning opportunities. This shows that the app has potential for growth. | 4. Employee reviews on Glassdoor highlight a lack of proper work-life balance and an unethical ‘hire & fire’ culture. |
FRND Alternatives

FRND is not really a dating app when you think about it. Much like LinkedIn Dating, where people are simply using the platform for building romantic connections, the FRND app was meant for platonic friendships. The app’s name is literally an abbreviated version of ‘friends.’
In that case, the app’s true alternatives would be my top three social media apps:
- Instagram.
- Snapchat.
- Facebook.
Yep, I’m a millennial, and Facebook is home – everyone I have ever known in my life is literally on my Facebook. So, if you are looking for a community, then Facebook is a good option.
However, if you wanted to explore FRND to spice up your love life, then here are some alternatives you can check out:
- Coffee Meets Bagel.
- Tawkify.
- Elite Singles.
- Silversingles.
- Kismia.
- Schmooze.
What Are People On The Internet Saying About FRND?
So, here’s what people are saying about FRND on the internet:
- “It is a good app. But one thing is don’t share personal information with them. If you are ok with them u can share u information and I am using these scenes for 10 to 11 months. Thanks so much FRND app♥️♥️✨ I am so happy with this.” (User on PlayStore on 8th August, 2025).
- “It’s a waste of money. Kind of a scam app. We pay the money, but sometimes, without talking to anyone, the money will be gone. The app will take the money. It’s one of the best scam apps. There is no Standard support from their customer support team if we face any issues. Worst app I’ve ever used. I recommend that everyone not use it. Your money will be gone.” (User on Play Store on 1st August, 2025).
- “I’ve been using the Frnd app for a while now, and I must say it’s a great platform to meet new people and make meaningful connections. The user interface is smooth and easy to navigate, and the matches are quite accurate. I appreciate the focus on genuine conversations rather than just looks. It feels safe and respectful, which makes the experience even better. Highly recommend for anyone looking to make new friends or just have fun chats.” (User on Play Store on 26th July, 2025).
- “I’ve loaded almost 500 coins, later I used only for 5-10 minutes of calls and closed the application. I just opened this application again and was shocked to see that only 10 coins are available. searched the whole app but couldn’t see the support option.” (User on Play Store on 19th July, 2025).
Is FRND Worth The Hype (And Investment)?
I think the dating app that I really liked was Schmooze – there was something just so fun about swiping on memes without knowing anything else about a person. Obviously, I had doubts, but then it was just so fun, I became a fan after spending a month on the app.
By those standards, FRND falls far short. The app literally offers nothing unique, and users are super confused about the app’s exact purpose – including me. So, do we use this app for making platonic friends, or do we ask people out?
Or, are we not defining things? This app stands in the middle of a spectrum dominated by social media giants like Meta on one end and popular dating apps – Tinder, Bumble, Hinge – on the other end. So, it literally doesn’t have an exact purpose, and that tends to complicate things – at least for me.
Also, the app has multiple bad reviews on the Play Store, App Store, and on other forums. Users mentioned how the app has a tendency to make people spend more and deliver less. Moreover, the employee reviews on Glassdoor and similar platforms also make me feel like it is a shady space.
Plus, the quality of the matches was very poor. I wasn’t able to have a single genuine conversation on the app. So, for me, FRND is a complete no-no, even if you are super bored and don’t know which social/dating apps to download on your phone – just remember, not this one!
