Is Bumble Premium Worth It? I Tried It For A Month To Find Out!

Is Bumble Premium worth it

Is Bumble Premium worth it? Well, you might be weirded out at the idea of paying a dating app – but that’s not how most dating app users have been feeling.

Don’t believe me? Let’s look at some data?

  • More than 350 million people across the globe use dating apps.
  • About 25 million people pay for premium versions of dating apps.
  • In 2024, the dating app industry made $6.18 billion in revenue.

Yeah, so people are fine with paying – I mean, you are seeking true love right? Anything for true love – a subscription to the premium version of an app sounds perfect! And why anything else when you have Tinder Gold and Bumble Premium?

Of course, you have heard about Bumble and probbaly on it. With 42 monthly active users in 2020, the app is famous for its ‘by women-for women’ approach – especially for heterosexual matches.

While the app already stands out for its filters and interactive features, its premium subscription offers additional features such as undoing a swipe or checking who liked your profile. But is it worth the investment and hype? Well, I tried it out for a month recently – and here to help you decide whether the premium version of Bumble is worth your time and money.

Stay tuned.

Is Bumble Premium Worth It?

This question entirely depends on how much a user likes Bumble, rather uses the app. And how much the same user is planning to invest in in-app purchases.

While reviewing Tinder Gold, I had talked in detail about the reverse swipes – and how its a gamechanger. Guess what? Bumble Premium has a similar feature and it is called Backtrack. Sometimes – especially for long-term users – swiping left happens too soon. And what happens is that you end up refusing someone too quickly.

This feature actually eliminates your left-swipe regrets – and it is one of the features that makes this version so useful.

Moreover, with Bumble Premium you don’t have to start talking to a match within 24 hours. I used to hate this imposition considering someone could be too busy to open the app every day. That doesn’t mean they want to lose the match. With the Premium version, you can extend your match for an extra 24 hours.

Another crucial feature is Incognito Mode. Considering I live in a metropolitan city, there are so many users on Bumble in my area – but most of them are not my type. So with Bumble’s Incognito Mode I was only seen by potential matches and protect my privacy.

For me these three features makes Bumble Premium worth the investment – and if you think so too then this paid version of Bumble is definitely for you.

What About Other Bumble Premium Features?

While Bumble Premium stands out for its Incognito Mode, Backtrack, and Time Extension features, I was somewhat ambivalent about some other features like the app’s advanced filters.

On that note, let’s check out some of the advanced filters available to premium users:

  • Height.
  • Star sign.
  • Exercise.
  • Drinking.
  • Smoking.
  • Education level.
  • Kids.
  • Religion.
  • Looking for.
  • Politics.

In certain cases, filters do make a lot of sense. So, if you do want to date a person with a similar faith then the religion filter can make the process better for you.

However, in certain other cases I am not sure whether filters are very helpful – such as the filter for zodiac sign. I mean, will you actually not go out with someone because they are a Libra? It’s childish and unnecessary.

Also, I did not get an opportunity to make the most of Travel Mode. However, if you fly frequently then this mode can be helpful.

Lastly, the Beeline was one feature that made me curious – of course, I wanted to know who had liked me already. But after a few weeks of not finding any match there, I didn’t check it anymore.

Bumble Premium Pricing

Primarily, there are two paid version of Bumble:

  1. Bumble Premium, and
  2. Bumble Boost.

While it is not advertised or promoted as such, Bumble Boost is relatively a low-pay tier as compared to Premium. On that note, here’s a pricing breakdown of both plans:

Bumble Boost

TimePricing
1 Week$8.99
1 Month$16.99
3 Months$33.99
6 Month$54.99

Bumble Premium

TimePricing
1 Week$19.99
1 Month$39.99
3 Months$79.99
6 Months$119.99
Lifetime$199.99

One thing is obvious that Bumble Premium is more expensive than subscriptions to other dating apps. For comparison, Bumble Premium will cost you $19.99 for a week – this price is higher than the pricing for a month of Tinder Platinum.

Who Benefits The Most From Bumble Premium?

So, who can benefit the most from Bumble Premium?

  1. The working professional who is always running out of time! If you are stuck with a demanding work environment (like me) and hardly any free time then Bumble’s Beeline feature can help you connect instantly with anyone who is interested. That way, you don’t even have to spend hours swiping on the app.
  1. The super choosy dating enthusiast. Yep! You guys know who I’m talking about. So, if you have specific dealbreakers like smoking habits or education levels then you can use Bumble’s advanced filters to improve your experience.
  1. The travel enthusiast who is on the move frequently. So, if you are someone who is traveling frequently then Bumble’s Travel Mode makes it super convenient to meet new people in new places.
  1. The one who cares about their privacy – maybe a little more than a vast majority. Yep! For privacy seekers, Bumble’s Incognito Mode will help to maintain a low profile and offer a peace of mind.

Bumble Premium Pros And Cons

Bumble Premium Pros And Cons_

Is Bumble Premium worth it? TBH, it’s not because it’s too expensive for me – especially once you compare the pricing with that of Tinder Gold and Hinge Premium.

Having said that, it’s also true that I fell in love with most features of Bumble Premium – it’s just that I’ve never liked starting conversations with men on dating apps. So, that kind of defeats the entire purpose of Bumble.

On that note, I’ve broken down the pros and cons of Bumble Premium:

ProsCons
1. The Backtrack feature allows users to undo swipes.1. Bumble Premium is more expensive than other app subscriptions.
2. Incognito Mode enables users to hide their profiles from all non-matches.2. The time extension happens only for an additional 24 hours.
3. Premium offers time extension for 24 hours to extend matches.

Will Paying Change The Quality Of Matches?

To be honest, only slightly.

However, it was not because Bumble Premium presented better profiles magically. Instead, it was because the paid version came with features that helped me to be more efficient and selective.

With the help of advanced filters, I made some genuine matches that matched my foundational criteria. This led to an improvement in conversations. In fact, I had a pretty fun coffee date with someone I met, thanks to advanced filters.

So, in my opinion, it’s a numbers game – and Bumble Premium? It helps you to refine the odds and improves your overall experience on the app.
