Today’s topic: How to deactivate Tinder account?
It is fine to get tired of swiping mindlessly on Tinder or any other dating app. Dating app fatigue is real, and you are not alone! In fact, data shows that a significant percentage of active dating app users have reported feeling burnt out with the apps they have been using.
Forbes published a survey on 25th July 2025 that discussed how 78% of dating app users have been experiencing fatigue with the apps they are on. And that’s not all. The same survey also highlighted how 79% of Gen Z users and 80% of millennials have reported experiencing similar feelings.
On that note, it is cool if you have been seeking a much-needed break from dating apps, specifically Tinder. Maybe you are exhausted from the dead-end conversations, or you have met someone but are not sure whether it will last. Deleting your account permanently just doesn’t feel right – well, you don’t have to delete your account and lose all existing conversations (and matches).
Instead, how about pausing your account temporarily? Unfortunately, you can’t pause your account on Tinder any longer, thanks to the app’s updated user interface and policies. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any other ways to hide your profile on Tinder.
Also, if you use Tinder Plus, then you can choose to be incognito and continue using the app without anyone’s knowledge. So, yes, you can hide your account on the app and take that much-needed break – and I can actually help you with that.
Stay tuned!
How To Deactivate Your Tinder Account?

Like I’ve been saying, knowing how to delete your account on Tinder is great. But you will end up losing all your matches and existing conversations. In that case, deactivating your account can be a better idea if you are bored with the app, experiencing fatigue, or getting to know someone better.
And I can help you with that.
So, follow the steps I have laid out below to deactivate or pause your Tinder account:
1.Click On The Profile Icon:
Open the Tinder app on your phone and click on the profile icon. If you are confused about this icon, just look for a button that looks like a person – it is typically located in your screen’s bottom-right corner.
2. Click On The Settings Gear:
Once you click on your profile icon, you will have to find the settings icon. This is the icon that looks like a gear and is located in the upper-right side of your screen.
3. Toggle Off Enable Discovery:
Once you click on the settings icon, you will reach the page showing the different options under settings. In this section, you will find the Enable Discovery option. Besides this option, you will spot a toggle button – turn it off.
Once you turn this button off, you will be able to hide your account on Tinder from others. If you want to enable your profile’s discovery again, just go back and toggle on the Enable Discovery option.
*Please Note:
While hiding your Tinder account, remember that this move will prevent your account from being a part of the app’s card stack. Also, you will not be allowed to swipe right or left on other accounts. However, you can continue talking to your existing matches. So, all ongoing conversations can go on. Also, people who had already liked you before you hid your account will be able to see your profile and even swipe you.
In addition, if you have any subscriptions on the app, cancel them before hiding your profile. This is because when you hide your profile on Tinder, the app doesn’t cancel your subscription. Instead, you have to do it from the Settings app for iPhone users and the Google Play Store for Android users.
How To Use Tinder In Incognito Mode?

As I have been saying, if you have Tinder Plus or anything above that subscription, then you can use the Incognito Mode to hide your account on Tinder. With this mode, you can hide your Tinder account and choose who can view your account.
So, here’s how you can use Tinder in Incognito Mode:
- Subscribe to Tinder Plus or any other higher subscription plan.
- Click on the profile icon.
- Click on the gear-shaped settings icon.
- Enable the Incognito Mode from the settings section.
In case you can’t find this option in the section settings, remember it is located right below the ‘Visibility’ or ‘Discovery’ header. You can just toggle it on for enabling the Incognito mode, and then hit the ‘confirm’ option which will appear on your screen – and wham!
Now, you can use Tinder in Incognito Mode. This means your profile will be hidden from people you don’t swipe right on first.
Why Deactivate Tinder?

While Tinder has been a source of exciting connections and meeting new people, there is no denying that it tends to get overwhelming. It is not always about finding true love – sometimes, it could just be a step to regain control, especially over your digital dating life.
As a result, deactivating your account can start to feel like a calm, deep breath after a deeply strenuous workout session – necessary and refreshing.
1. Privacy Concerns:
One of the most popular reasons behind deactivating Tinder accounts is privacy. This is because the app collects information to enhance the overall user experience.
As a result, some people say they find it highly intrusive and have certain privacy concerns. In that case, deactivating their account appears to be a plausible idea.
2. Change In Relationship Status:
This one is super common! So, you are single and have Tinder on your phone. But then suddenly you stumble upon someone special at work and get talking.
After a month or so, when it starts becoming somewhat serious, having Tinder on your phone is not a good idea. In that case, a minor change in relationship status can also lead to a break from dating apps.
3. Dating App Fatigue:
This is an emerging reason behind people deactivating their dating app accounts temporarily. Due to the emotionally draining and time-consuming experiences on dating apps like Tinder, users are deactivating their accounts to avoid any further frustration and disappointment.
Moreover, some people also take a break from dating apps temporarily to re-focus on different parts of their lives.
