Does Bumble have read receipts?

To cut a long story very short, the answer is: No, Bumble doesn’t have read receipts. So, ideally, it is not possible to find out who read your messages on the app.

I think this feature has its own pros and cons. While it’s great to know I can open someone’s text without feeling obligated to reply, it can put me in an anxious state of mind if my crush doesn’t reply for hours.

Did he read my text? Or, did he read my text and choose not to reply? It just creates a sense of confusion – you are literally in the dark. While it’s not a big deal for friends, family, and acquaintances on other social networking sites, it is sort of big when you are trying to know a stranger better on a dating app.

Having said that, I went through Bumble’s policies minutely to understand the app’s stance on read receipts. So here I am to discuss Bumble’s read receipts in detail.

Stay tuned.

Bumble’s Stance On Read Receipts: Does Bumble Have Read Receipts?

No, Bumble doesn’t have any read receipts, as I just mentioned. The dating app’s ‘Your Conversation’ page states that Bumble aims for a low-pressure, comfortable environment. As a result, the app avoids having such features.

Of course, you can see if your match is typing a reply or if a text has been delivered. But sadly, you won’t know if it has been read or not. The app has done this deliberately – Bumble feels such features can create anxiety or pressure. Instead, the app aims to keep the overall experience comfortable and simple for all its users.

Bumble deliberately avoids read receipts and other indicators that might create pressure or anxiety, preferring to keep conversations simple and comfortable for its users.

What You Might See Instead?

Instead of read receipts, there are two things that you can see on Bumble:

  1. Delivered Status: You can check the delivery indicator to find out whether your texts have been delivered to your match.
  1. Typing Indicators: You can see when your match is typing a response. This indicator appears in the form of three moving dots to show that your match is currently typing a response.

Why Bumble Doesn’t Have Read Receipts?

Why Bumble Doesn't Have Read Receipts_

Bumble doesn’t have read receipts for three primary reasons:

1. User Privacy:

Bumble’s conscious choice not to have read receipts shows the app’s commitment to maintaining user privacy.

In this context, here’s what Bumble has to say: “Just so you know, Bumble doesn’t show read receipts when you send or receive a message, or your online or activity status. We believe conversations should feel comfortable and low-pressure, so we keep things simple by not including features like read receipts and activity statuses.

    2. Low Pressure And Comfort:

Bumble aims to create an environment that is comfortable and free of anxiety. Yep, as per Bumble, having this feature can end up adding unnecessary stress and anxiety to the whole experience.

      3. Monetization:

While monetization is not the most crucial reason, this feature does become available on several dating apps as a part of their premium plans. Take Tinder, for example – the feature is available to Tinder’s premium users. For Bumble, the goal is to keep things low-pressure and comfortable – hence, the feature isn’t available for their premium users.

Does Bumble Premium Have Read Receipts?

In spite of the sheet convenience that read receipts offer on dating apps, Bumble doesn’t offer this feature, and that too for any plan.

Yep! Even with a premium plan, you won’t get this feature – the app doesn’t offer it as part of its premium plans. However, remember that the app does have a typing indicator in place – it looks exactly how the indicator appears on iPhone.

So, if you see a message and start replying to the said message, then it becomes visible to your match in case they have your chat open.

For such cases, remember that your match will know that you have definitely seen their text. So, if you stop typing and come out of the chat thread, your match will know that you have seen their last message. And the same is applicable for others replying to you.
