So, recently I did something for the plot! You guys know how I keep hopping onto dating apps and reviewing them. I was so bored with the usual apps, I had to check out something fun. Meet SilverSingles – an app exclusively focused on people over 50.
At first, I thought, what is the point really – as a 28-year-old, what could I possibly do on the app? But for the sake of the plot (and this blog), I did what I could – I signed up on the app, and spent a month on it, getting to know really nice people.
And guess what? These people actually shared their experiences with me, helping me to find out more about this app, and more importantly, how it works.

Launched by Spark Networks, meet SilverSingles – a dating application that focuses on people over 50. The app was first launched over two decades ago and since then has undergone multiple iterations.
But the core foundation has stayed the same – the focus is on an older, mature audience.
And while so many of us are not yet in the ‘silver’ demographic, the app-owners did do something right – the idea that people over 50 are lonely and might seek love or companionship online.
Even if I am too young for this app, I went ahead and gave it a go! In order to sign up, I had to fill out a comprehensive questionnaire, answering different questions related to my dating goals. Moreover, these personality-focused questions made me think of eHarmony and seemed much better than more commercial apps like Bumble or Tinder.
With the help of this information, the app will curate matches for you every day, depending on compatibility scores. Also, the best part is that the app allows users to send messages to literally anyone from the list of recommendations.
I really liked how the app doesn’t make people wait when it comes to reaching out – you actually don’t have to wait to match before you can reach out. So, if you come across any profile, you can just text them.
Plus, this website has several features that often go beyond using any app, namely content on people who met on the platform, articles on finding love after 50, safety while dating online, and more.
How SilverSingles Works?
It depends on how thorough you plan to be – and really, it is better to be detailed. Take 30 minutes, if needed, to fill out the questionnaire and set up your profile. Once you finish signing up on the platform, SilverSingles will start curating potential matches for you.
The app’s algorithm depends on the famous Five Factor Model of people’s personalities. This basically groups different personality traits and aspects into five different dimensions:
- Being Open to Experiences.
- Being Agreeable.
- Extrovert Behavior.
- Consciousness.
- Neuroticism.
You will make happier matches with people whose traits resemble yours, at least as per the app’s algorithm.
According to the official website of the app, the success of dating typically rests on meeting individuals who have the same outlook towards life. Moreover, the app also displays confidence in terms of suggesting matches that are accurate and align closely with what someone might be looking for.
In fact, once you complete setting up your profile, the app will show your first 10 potential matches depending on your personality traits and compatibility scores. Also, the app will tell you how far away your potential match is from you.
Yes, the app did match me with accounts that were located out of my preferred range. While I didn’t really mind, others can.
In addition, when you check out your matches, you can also click on their photos to find out more. You can also send messages to people whose profiles are appealing. Plus, you get new matches every day. One thing I would like to point out is that this app actually gave a comprehensive insight into the personalities of active users.
Is SilverSingles Free?
Love is free, and I always find the idea of paying to find love very commercial. But desperate times call for desperate measures. So, paying for the premium version of an app makes things safer and better. On that note, it is best to know about the pricing plans of these apps.
So, I’ve listed the different pricing plans for SilverSinglers below:
- $191.99/annually.
- $137.99/6 months.
- $98.90/quarterly.
- $59.99/monthly.
Yes, there is a free version of the app that you can also use if you are new to the app and don’t know whether you should invest or not. I did use the free version, and it was pretty good!
With the free version, you can do the personality test and receive suggestions about potential matches from the app. However, you will encounter limitations while communicating with others.
As a result, it is best to start with the app’s free version first before deciding whether you should opt for a paid plan.
Also, in this context, I want to highlight that the pricing plans are fine by industry standards. I really liked how there were no tiered memberships on the app. As a result, what you will see on the app is what you will get, and this is highly refreshing as compared to what is currently available in the market.
For instance, it is honestly annoying to figure out whether to buy Bumble coins or invest in Bumble Premium or even Boost, for that matter.
As compared to other dating apps, the fee actually drops when you buy an annual or a six-month subscription instead of a monthly fee.
Cancellation Policy For SilverSingles
The cancellation process on the dating app is super easy.
To cancel your premium subscription, just navigate to the ‘subscriptions’ section on your device’s settings and select the ‘cancel’ option. Also, if you are canceling your subscription from your desktop, you can do so with a single click in the ‘User Settings.’
Is SilverSingles Worth The Hype (And Investment)?
I would actually say a definite yes!
But do remember that I was a woman on the app. I did hear a lot of men complaining about scam accounts. However, I didn’t face such issues, but I’ve faced such a problem on other dating apps in the past.
Since SilverSingles does need people to fill out their personality tests. In fact, I think it is very easy to find out how dedicated people are on the app for real.
Moreover, the extensive personality test in the very beginning actually helped us figure out how much you have in common with your potential matches and, more importantly, how serious your potential matches are about finding someone special.
The only thing I didn’t like about this app is that it matches you with certain people who are located very far away from you. Now, if someone is not willing to travel beyond the defined boundaries, then this can tamper with the whole experience.
