Schmooze

At this point in my life, I’m a dating app veteran, considering I have been using dating apps since 2017. It’s been eight years since my first swipe – it makes me emotional. In these eight years, I have used different apps, and you know what’s common for all apps? The idea of matching with someone based on photos and profile descriptions.

This makes finding love on dating apps somewhat taxing, not to mention superficial, since you are curating with much thought and some excellent edits. And trust me on this one – all of us are guilty! We spent hours answering questions, selecting the right pictures, and crafting the perfect bio – so much for reality.

Naturally, it was a refreshing change to come across Schmooze – a dating app that helps you to find genuine connections based on your preferences for memes. At first glance, it sounds great, but in retrospect, I realized that I am far too shallow and making decisions based on memes is not always a great decision, especially if you are just looking for a pair of guys with abs for the weekend.

But that doesn’t mean I was going to write this innovative concept off without using it. And so I signed up on the app to find out for real – was it worth the hype, and certainly the investment?

Let’s find out.

What Is Schmooze?

What Is Schmooze?

Available for both Android and iPhone users, Schmooze is a dating app that aims to transform the entire dating scene by matching its users based on their affinity for memes and sense of humor.

Unlike most superficial dating platforms, this one prioritizes genuine connections via shared laughter. Moreover, the app also enables users to swipe through memes, giving a comprehensive insight into meme content.

Depending on the swipes of users, the algorithm of Schmooze develops a sort of humor profile for every user. Moreover, it is so much fun to match with someone through shared laughter – the matches will depend on a user’s sense of humor.

Currently, with more than 15 million swipes and over 500,000 matches, this meme-based dating app is gaining popularity among people who appreciate memes and a solid sense of humor.

How Does Schmooze Work?

How Does Schmooze Work_

So, like any other app, you have to swipe through profiles – only in this case, you need to swipe through memes.

Once you match with someone on the app, conversations start with memes – it’s a sort of icebreaker, perfect for people who fumble with the right conversation starters

The only catch? Much like Bumble, you will have a 48-hour window to text your match. If you don’t start a conversation with your match within 48 hours, then the app automatically removes the chat.

In addition, this meme-based dating app offers a customized experience, thanks to the #memevibe feature. With this feature, users on the app can select from different categories to get memes customized to their preferences and interests, whether it’s politics, gaming, music, sports, history, science, or more.

What I Thought About The Matches?

I have paid on dating apps multiple times. Paying for a dating app doesn’t necessarily guarantee good matches. It’s all pure luck (or so I thought).

On Schmooze, I didn’t pay to get matched with someone. For starters, the profiles were mostly genuine and decent. However, the intention to meet in real life is comparatively low. However, I was somewhat happy with the overall experience.

TBH, I was very surprised by this app. I did say in the beginning that swiping on memes and not profiles does feel gimmicky. However, it is so much more entertaining than checking our profiles on dating apps. I’ll tell you why!

  1. Dank memes.
  2. A set number of profiles are selected daily for users to swipe right (schmooze) or swipe left (snooze) on.
  3. Crazy meme recommendations.

Moreover, I had some fun conversations, mostly with a younger crowd. But I also got the opportunity to interact with a few 30-year-olds. Also, I realized it is so easy to get matches on the app – you can easily get 20-25 matches in 2 weeks. And for doing that, you don’t need a premium version.

So, here are some common patterns I observed on Schmooze:

  • Over 70% of matches put in effort while conversing with me.
  • Around 20% didn’t even try putting in any effort.
  • Around 5 to 7% had made requests about ‘paid fun’ and ‘becoming a sugar baby.’
  • Didn’t come across any bot accounts.

In addition, the app was pretty slick – I didn’t encounter any bugs. However, I would advise everyone not to use the conversation starters the app offers – forget about the recommended pickup lines and start a conversation normally.

Pros And Cons Of Schmooze:

Pros And Cons Of Schmooze_

Based on my experience, I’ve listed down the pros and cons of Schmooze below:

ProsCons
1. Profiles are genuine and decent. Most users haven’t encountered any bot accounts. 1. The app doesn’t offer unlimited swiping since users only get a selected number of profiles to swipe on daily.
2. The app is slick with hardly any bugs. This makes the overall user experience smooth.2. While the app has no bugs, users frequently face issues with logging into their profiles.
3. The free version is very convenient. Moreover, the paid upgrades are super affordable. 3. There is no way to filter out profiles based on each user’s location. So that can make things inconvenient.

Schmooze Alternatives:

Schmooze Alternatives_

Schmooze literally calls itself the “world’s first meme-based dating app.” In that case, exact alternatives don’t really exist. However, there are some truly unique dating apps that offer more than just swiping on superficial profiles. At a glance, here are some of them:

  1. Coffee Meets Bagel.
  2. Silversingles.
  3. Tawkify.
  4. Elite Singles.
  5. Kismia.
  6. FRND.

What Are People On The Internet Saying About Schmooze?

What Are People On The Internet Saying About Schmooze

So, here’s what people are saying about Schmooze on the internet:

  1. “Different and Fun Concept If you’re into memes, Schmooze is the perfect app! Starting convos by sharing memes with matches makes things way more fun & natural. I do wish we could re-share our common memes in DMs though – that feature’s missing right now. The UI feels super clean & refreshingly different compared to most dating apps out there. Love that we can now filter our likes, but it’d be even better if the ‘Religious Beliefs’ section showed the actual religion instead of vague categories.” (User on PlayStore on 16th July, 2025).
  1. “The app is a good, new concept altogether. But all you can find is catfishers, fake bio, fake pics and the moment you match with them, they want to meet at a restaurant of ‘their choice at their place’, most probably because they have a bill split commission tie up there. Please beware of these scammers. Hope you find some genuine matches.” (User on PlayStore on 2nd July, 2025).
  1. “I have no words to thank this app and its developers, I found someone with all the qualities which I was looking for. You’re doing a great job, I hope that every person who’s using your app will get a perfect match for them as I found.” (User on PlayStore on 30th June, 2025).
  1. “This is a nice app and I met a lot of people but recently I am facing some issues like the app closes whenever I schmooze someone and click their profile to chat .. I really liked this app and I hope you will solve this issue.”  (User on PlayStore on 30th May, 2025).

Is Schmooze Worth The Hype (And Investment)?

With all the doubts I had about Schmooze initially, I obviously did not expect to fall for the ‘unique’ concept. But I did, considering it was SO FUN! And even if you fail to find true love on this dating app, you can at least have a great time.

Yes, yes, swiping on memes just sounds super casual and a little too weird – but strangely, I had some crazy conversations. Also, the absence of bots or fake accounts made my experience good, so, yes, for me, Schmooze is totally worth the hype and investment.
