I Tried Out Lovoo, So You Don’t Have To…

Lovoo has been around since 2011 and has steadily grown in popularity over the years in an industry dominated by dating app giants.

Lovoo

I have been on an intriguing (not to mention time-consuming) journey to explore, review, and write about underrated dating apps. Recently, I wrote about the world’s only meme-based dating app, A.K.A Schmooze.

Today, I’ve come back with another dating app under the spotlight – meet Lovoo! Nope, it’s not a new member in the dating app industry. Instead, it has been around since 2011, but it took me more than a decade to even hear about it.

Is it my fault? Or is Lovoo just another underrated dating app that is yet to get Cupid’s approval, unlike Tinder and Bumble?

I don’t really think it’s my fault because I have used several dating apps, and this is not one of those names that popped up often. And that is precisely why I was so intrigued to try it out – it wasn’t popular, but it has existed actively for over a decade.

In that case, there must be something appealing about this app – or am I wrong? Is Lovoo worth the hype and investment? Let’s find out.

How Does Lovoo Work?

How Does Lovoo Work

Lovoo offers two primary ways of connecting with people. So, you will find the ‘Match’ option where you can swipe people one-by-one – this is basic.

It’s just standard swiping left and right for each potential match. Obviously, if you swipe right on someone who does the same to your profile, then you guys will match.

Moreover, the app’s ‘Near You’ feature helps users browse profiles in their area to swipe on. However, to talk to anyone who hasn’t swiped right on your profile, you will need an icebreaker. Remember, you will have a limited supply of icebreakers.

Also, the app’s ‘Live’ tab will let you enjoy live streaming – if you are up for streaming live for your potential matches, then why not?

Plus, you will get enough credits to log in every day to ensure it is possible to get some matches (and hopefully a few dates). Also, you can earn credits for free by doing certain activities like watching advertisement pop-ups, verifying your account, unlocking the app’s Surprise Of The Day, and more.

What I Thought About The Matches?

The profiles on this dating app were basic – I wasn’t able to find anything unique. Of course, the app allows users to add a few demographic details, a bio, and some pictures to their profiles. Moreover, if you verify your profile, then a small, blue badge will appear beside your name.

When I created my profile, I verified my account. Also, while matching and interacting with people on the app, I only spoke with people who had the same badge – it was an additional layer of security step I followed on the app.

It was also pretty cool that people on the app were ready to try out different things – whether it’s a casual hookup, a serious relationship, or even a friendly chat.

Plus, so many people on the app are responsive – I would say about 20-25% people responded almost instantly. And while I’ve seen better response rates on Coffee Meets Bagel, Hinge, and Tinder. So, if you have decent conversation skills, you can easily land a few dates from Lovoo.

Moreover, I loved how the app allows users to send unlimited texts to their matches without any interference. However, for texting someone before you guys match, you need to buy an ‘icebreaker.’

Also, I wasn’t able to send any pictures – communication on the app is text-based. Now, I found it significantly limiting – no wonder so many users on the app prefer exchanging their social media details.

Lovoo Pricing

Lovoo Pricing

Of course, Lovoo has a free version. But I would not recommend the free version for anyone because the app doesn’t make anything interesting accessible for free.

And if you don’t believe me, check out the user reviews I dug out from the Play Store. Or, you can go to Lovoo’s review page on the Play Store and go through the reviews – a whopping majority points out the BIG problem with the dating app. You have to pay for almost everything.

In that case, the app should promote itself like Elite Singles and avoid associating itself with the dating apps that make core features accessible to all users for free.

Free Features Vs Premium Features:

So, here’s a detailed breakdown of the features you can access with a free account – and the ones only available for premium users:

Free FeaturesPaid Features
1. Account Registration.1. Increased Visibility.
2. Live Video Streaming.2. No Advertisements.
3. One Icebreaker Everyday.3. Incognito Browsing.
4. Send Likes and Hearts.4. See Who ‘Liked’ Your Profile.
5. Use of the Search Functions.5. See Who ‘Viewed’ Your Profile.
6. Watch Live Streams.6. Send Unlimited Icebreakers.
7. Make a Favorites List to Add Users.7. Undo Swipes.

Pricing Details:

Lovoo has only one premium tier. To access this tier, users will have to pay for a subscription monthly. Also, I saw that the app lets the user decide whether they want to sign up for 12 months, 6 months, 3 months, or just a month.

Of course, the subscriptions that span longer periods of time are relatively more expensive than monthly or quarterly plans. However, it is best to pay monthly – that way, you will pay relatively less.

So, here’s a detailed pricing breakdown:

TimeCost
1 Month$12.99
3 Months$23.99 | $8/Monthly
6 Months$44.99 | $7.50/Monthly
12 Months$64.99 | $5.42/Monthly

Additionally, Lovoo credits will cost you $0.01 each. You can use these credits to access the live streaming feature on the app. Also, you will need these credits to swipe right on anyone who has a free membership on the app. Moreover, free users of the app can earn additional credits by watching advertisements.

On that note, I have also highlighted the pricing for credits on the Lovoo app.

Credits Cost
500 Credits$4.99
1,000 Credits$9.99
3,000 Credits$24.99 with a 16% discount and five free icebreakers.
8,000 Credits$54.99 with a 31% discount and 15 free icebreakers.
17,000 Credits$109.99 with a 35% discount and 25 free icebreakers.
60,000 Credits$325.99, 44% discount, and 35 icebreakers.

Also, you can purchase icebreakers separately. Here’s a breakdown:

IcebreakersCost
5 Icebreakers$4.99 | $1 each.
25 Icebreakers$18.99 | $0.76 each.
50 Icebreakers$29.99 | $0.60 each.

Pros And Cons Of Lovoo

Pros And Cons Of Lovoo_

Based on my experience, I’ve listed the pros and cons of Lovoo below:

ProsCons
1. With a smooth user interface, Lovoo witnesses high activity levels on both the app and website.1. The app has basic search filters that fail to make the overall experience unique.
2. Members on the dating app can earn Lovoo credits for free.2. Several reports mention that the geolocation of the app is inaccurate.
3. The app allows users to buy ‘icebreakers’ for initiating conversations with their matches.3. On the app’s premium version, users get only three icebreakers daily. That is very low by market standards.

Lovoo Alternatives

Lovoo Alternatives

Lovoo is not really a new dating app. It has been around since 2011 – but while mainstream apps like Tinder and Bumble went really big in a short span of time, this one has stayed underrated. And today, it’s under our spotlight, considering I’m only reviewing underrated dating apps of the decade!

On that note, here are my top Lovoo alternatives:

  1. Coffee Meets Bagel.
  2. Silversingles.
  3. Tawkify.
  4. Elite Singles.
  5. Kismia.
  6. FRND.
  7. Litmatch.
  8. Schmooze

What Are People On The Internet Saying About Schmooze?

So, here’s what people are saying about Lovoo on the internet:

  1. “It doesn’t let you change locations to search for other users. So, if you have no users in your local area, you’re screwed. A waste of time. VPN doesn’t work to bypass it. It says to email support staff to change the location, but it takes weeks if anything to get a response, or they just ignore it.” (User on Play Store on 18th August, 2025).
  1. “I live in a larger city, but 95% of profiles shown are 80-90km away. Filtering by distance is only possible with a premium subscription. Sending me a notification every time someone views (but does not like) my profile feels like a slap in the face. You get an ad every couple of swipes. The ads are very difficult to close – the app often thinks that I click the ad and not the close button.” (User on Play Store on 10th June, 2025).
  1. “It’s a wonderful app for making new friends, but the real charm of it was making overseas friends all over the globe. Kindly be a little more generous and allow users to interact with international persons too.” (User on Play Store on 20th April, 2025).
  1. “An app so unbelievably bad it’s almost impressive. If the abysmally poor performance doesn’t make you uninstall it, it’s the constant pop-up ads and the fact that you simply can’t upload half of your pictures for various “community guidelines” reasons. Even if it’s just your sunglasses that make your face “unrecognisable,” You’re better off with literally any other app on the planet lmao.”  (User on Play Store on 24th March, 2025).

Is Lovoo Worth The Hype (And Investment)?

TBH, not really!

I liked using Hinge so much more. Yes, Hinge is one of the most popular dating apps currently. So, if I don’t consider Hinge and think about more underrated options, you can definitely check out Tawkify. I’ve had a great time on that app.

Speaking about Lovoo, while everything seems to be great on the surface, there are underlying issues. For instance, just too many glitches – when the app fixes one issue, two more problems crop up. In comparison, most dating apps in the market have zero glitches – so why not use those?

Also, I find the number of daily icebreakers available for premium users too low by market standards.

As a result, I will not recommend Lovoo for a smooth dating experience – there are better apps out there. So, it’s better to skip this one.
